curious birds: trying new things

via

i am not a thrill seeker or a very adventurous person. if you are looking for someone to go skydiving, bungee jumping or cliff diving with, you will not find her here. this has not always been the case. i used to be a tiny bit braver than i am today. even through high school i would ride scary roller coasters and crazy rides. but you will no longer see me in line at the amusement park. i can't even do the ferris wheel. (being stuck at the top of this is one of my worst nightmares. and if you don't believe me...my stomach honestly just dropped going to that website). i am seriously such a wimp when it comes to things like that. i am, however, adventurous is certain ways. if we were at a restaurant and you wanted me to try some crazy new cheese? heck yeah! bring on the fromage. if you were to ask, hey nora, try this crazy awesome hot sauce! my reply would always be, okay! i freakin' love hot sauce! i will almost always be first in line at karaoke (okay, maybe not first. but i will always go right after megan). i long to travel more. i really want to see the world. and i would love to try surfing, white water rafting, mountain biking (on a small mountain), and many other fun and crazy sounding things. i would! i just haven't. but hopefully, someday, i will.

i got to thinking about this the past few days. i have been watching megan's two awesome, amazing and crazy kids this week. they are four and six and they are super adventurous. they will try anything at least once (and usually over and over). seriously, henry can do a back flip. how do you think he figured that out? i love that about kids! it is so awesome. watching my one year old try new things, and navigate her way through life through trial and error...it is simply amazing (and often extremely terrifying for me to witness). but she has to learn, right? obviously with a lot of help from me and jim and all the other wonderful people who are teaching me how and helping me to raise her. we all had to find our way. so, at one point in our lives we were all super adventurous and trying new things every day! crazy to think about, right?

so, my question to you today is...

i went to skyzone the other day with the kiddos. seriously, if there is one near you, check it out. i want to go every day now! that is my most recent one. kind of vanilla, but so much fun!
(sorry so blurry. they wouldn't stop bouncing even for a second)!

recently, i have also started my own successful business! started a blog! (both of these things, obviously, with megan). had a baby (not with megan...although she has taught me a TON about being an awesome mama!). bought a house (three years ago, but whatever)! flown with a toddler (so scary, people)! anyway, you get the picture. now i want to know...what have you done? what should i try?

as always, i hope you are having a fun and adventure-filled day!!!

xoxo, nora bird

Thomas Jacob "Tommy" Hilfiger (born March 24, 1951) is an American fashion designer and founder of the brand Tommy Hilfiger.
After turning to the design of clothing by designing for the rest of his stores in upstate New York, Hilfiger moved to New York City with his now estranged wife, Susie. Although he was offered design assistant positions with designers Calvin Klein and Perry Ellis, and was broke, he turned them both down with greater plans in mind.
In 1984, he founded the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation, (NYSE:TOM), with support from The Murjani Group, which went public in 1992, introducing his signature menswear collection. By 2004 the company had 5,400 employees and revenues in excess of $1.8 billion. Hilfiger was named Menswear Designer of the Year by the Council of Fashion Designers of America in 1997.
In 1998, Hilfiger gave singer Aaliyah her endorsement deal, in which he honored her in his Summer 1998 fashion show in Jamaica.
In 2005, a CBS TV reality show called The Cut tracked the progress of sixteen contestants as they competed for a design job with Hilfiger in similar fashion to Donald Trump's The Apprentice. In the end Hilfiger chose Chris Cortez.
Largely due to declining sales, in 2006, Tommy Hilfiger sold his company for $4 billion, or $16.80 a share, to Apax Partners, a private investment company. In March 2010, Phillips-Van Heusen, owner of Calvin Klein, bought the Tommy Hilfiger Corporation for $10 billion.

love*birds 6.29.11: the stars and stripes edition

our dog is terrified of fireworks. so much so that we have to give him anti-anxiety pills every fourth of july. the problem is that fireworks aren't just on the fourth; kids are constantly setting off those ones that make the zing and the pop noise. you know what i'm talking about, right? like the sound of a cartoon bomb...immediately followed by some wacky animal with stars surrounding his head. or is that when he gets hit with a frying pan? i get my cartoon sounds confused! anyhow, back to desi (our dog). on such nights that these whipper snapper firecrakers (that's what i've decided to name them) are going off, we either have to give him pills, lock him in the basement where he can't hear anything, or cradle him like a newborn until his shaking subsides. but usually it doesn't. desi will jump on our bed and shake uncontrollably ~ chris and i call this the "quarter in the bed" syndrome.  that's the one not-so-good thing about the fourth of july. but there are oh so many good things. which is why we are dedicating this week's love*birds to all things patriotic!

megan bird's picks:
jeffrey campbells
i bet you didn't think i'd find patriotic jeffrey campbells, right? well i did...i found two! ok, i actually found three, but i didn't like one pair (gasp!!!)

american flag high-waisted shorts
can you think of a better way to say you love the usa than with some vintage high-waisted shorts? in.love.

stars and stripes romper
i love a great romper. and this is a great romper. it's stars and stripes without being tacky. i love it!

messenger bag
what's not to love about this bag? it's eco friendly, it's big, it's adorable! and, it's completely handmade. love.

vintage embroidery hoops with ticking
how cute are these? while i'm normally not a huge fan of american folk art sort of items, these really caught my eye. like the romper, they do not scream "i love america!" it's more like a quiet whisper...and i can appreciate that.

nora bird's picks:

i love this dress. the stripes, the shape...this is red, white and blue chic!

you know i love a headband. and this one is just so pretty! love love love.

i never ever thought i would actually like an american flag shirt...but this one is actually pretty cool. i would rock this baby.

this magnet made me smile. so cute!

baby shoes are almost always cute, but i really love these. i would even wear them if they made them in my size!

we hope you are having a happy week! i am already excited for the long weekend and it is only wednesday! if you celebrate it, we wish you a fun and safe fourth of july weekend!

xoxo, the birds

New Video: Drake - Marvin's Room

Video: Marvin's Room

I'm sure a video for Drake's viral track 'Marvin's Room' has been well anticipated, and one has finally debuted. The song that has Drizzy getting his R&B on in a rather melancholy way has taken the web by storm since it was first posted on the OVO (October's Very Own) blog back on June 9th. A matter of fact it seems to have taken the R&B world by storm as various artists have made remixes. IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD IT... the track is about a drunken Drake who has called up his ex saying that she "could do better" than the guy that she claims to "love so bad" !! THE VISUAL... Directed by Hyghly of XO and shot in Toronto, the video I think they smashed it as it meets the concept of the song. The video being so simple and strict to the lyrics actually proves to be much more effective than the many high budget videos floating around right now. With no further adieu, check it out...

PS. Look out for my 'Marvin's Room' article later this week discussing all the remixs including Jo Jo and Chris Brown's take on the track.

GOES PERFECTLY WITH THE SONG !!

New Video: Estelle - Break My Heart

Video: Break My Heart ft. Rick Ross

Homegrown talent Estelle is back with something awesome again. The rapper turned songstress has up with Rick Ross for the second single of her third studio album All of Me. The single 'Break My Heart' has been out for a while getting a frequent spin on the radio, but has only peaked #48 on the US Billboard Hip-Hop/R&B chart. Hopeful the newly released visual directed by Chris Robinson that made it's debut on 106&Park last week, will boot the track up the chart. Hopefully it makes top 10 over here !! Enjoy :)

NICE TUNE !!

New Video: DJ Khaled - I'm On One

I'm On One (ft. Drake, Rozay & Weezy)

DJ Khaled's 'I'm On One' featuring Drake, Rick 'Rozay' Ross and Lil' Wayne now has a visual. I've been playing this track like crazy but it's not really a track to expect a video as awesome to match. I didn't even expect a visual at all as there's not much you could really do with it other than have the artists (of course), alcohol accompanied with some kush, randoms, chicks a lush car Weezy bouncing about and Rozay's belly !! *DRUM ROLL...* that's exactly what you get !! Maybe not in that order but they're all there nevertheless. Sorry to be a party pooper !! What I did find funny though was the contrast; how DJ Khaled had it all lush with a bottle and glasses and Drizzy had his 'three cups' as he says in his verse !! Oh well they're all rich !! Birdman also makes a cameo appearance in the clip. I totally love how Drizzy can swear in song in such a lovely way in such a hood song. Gotta love him hey..? Check out the video...

BANGER !!

tuesday remix: sister style

i am sitting here trying to think of some fun story or clever quip before i show you the remix, and i am coming up blank. my brain is tired. this weekend was tons of fun...perhaps too much fun. now my brain needs time to recover. what? it's tuesday, you say? yes, my brain needs at least three days recovery time. i should be back up and running by tomorrow! but you didn't come here to listen to me blabber on anyway...let's check out the remix!

this week megan chose this super cute dress/skirt that she got at marshalls. it was the perfect dress for me to wear yesterday. i had mimi, plus megan's lovely kiddos, so this was the perfect dress to throw on and go go go! plus, it was warm and breezy out, which is exactly how i would describe this dress. i just love it. and the bonus??? megan told me i could keep it! what??? i don't know what she is thinking giving me all her cute stuff, but i am most definitely not going to argue or try and talk her out of it. i'll just be thankful for having such a kind and generous (and perhaps a bit crazy) sister.

Songs in A Minor 10th Anniversary

Alicia Keys: Songs in A Minor

Today is the release date of singing beauty Alicia Key's re-release of her debut album Songs in A Minor. It is the second time the album is being re-relased the first time after it's orginal debut in 2001 being a remix and unplugged version a year later in 2002. This deluxe edition is extra special, it is a double disc 10th aninnversary special. It's hard to believe that Ms Keys has been in the game for 10 years now as her music still remains refreshing and true to her style. She has come a long way, from the young women with the braids to the woman she is today - a mother and a wife. The deluxe edition that uses the same photo on her original album cover, features unreleased tracks that may go as far back as 1997 (when she first started recorded her debut) on the second disc. There is also a collectors edition that features extra tracks on the second disc - some being live concert recordings and also a DVD. One track that has really got me from this blissful re-release is entitled 'Typewriter'. This joint really captures the old Alicia with her talking in parts of the track. Though it is old it is really refre to hear a song with that pinch of soul in it especially since R&B today has moved away from that quite some. Check out the original album art after the break, but before that have a listen to 'Typewriter'. Enjoy :)

BEAUTIFUL !!

NOT MUCH DIFFERNT TO THE RE-RELEASE HEY..?

Endz 2 Endz Has A New Look !!

Summer Has Arrived At Endz 2 Endz !!

Summer has finally arrived in the UK, well at least yesterday in London the sun made it's official debut this month - better late than never. We were blessed with all the sun that we've missed this month all at once in a heatwave. Causing alarm for the poor paramedics who had many casualties. The sun has been missing so long people can't handle it when it does make an appearance !! ANYWAY... forget the weather for now (by the way sun that is no excuse to disappear on us again). If you didn't know already I'm blog editor over at the London based, UK magazine's website - and what I wanted to share with you all is that summer has also arrived at Endz2Endz Magazine's website. We have a brand new look - a summer themed one at that and new attributes to the website. Also look out for the upcoming articles and very soon the sixth issue of the magazine. So make sure sometime today - and everyday you make sometime to check out the website. ← IT'S CLICKABLE !!

PS. Yes I've been m.i.a AGAIN, but hey it's better being back in action that not at all right..? ;)
