FBFF ~ fashion blogging

today's topic is all about fashion blogging, and the pressures that may come with it. if you'd like to read more posts about this topic, head on over to Modly Chic.

1. have you ever looked at someone's blog and thought yours will never measure up?

sure...there are some wonderful blogs out there. we don't have it in our heads that we will ever be as big as others are. however, when we started our blog, we didn't do it for that reason. so, while there are some wildly successful blogs out there, we don't feel like we don't measure up, because we are our own blog, and we are doing it for the fun of blogging and the ability to express our thoughts, fashion ideas, and opinions.

2. do you (did you) feel pressure to meet some kind of undefined standard for fashion bloggers?

nope...i think at first, maybe, we felt like we could only do fashion posts...but as we continued, we realized that fashion to us is more than just what you wear...it's how you live your life, how you decorate your house, how you think about putting outfits together. so now we have no problems blogging about other things...i also think that our readers appreciate a little glimpse into our lives other than just what we are wearing every day.

3. many established fashion bloggers are also extraordinary DIYers, bakers, and crafty people. do you think you need to combine all of these things to be successful at blogging?

yes and no...i think you can be successful at blogging without having these qualities, but i also think that most people who decide to start blogs (especially fashion blogs) do have all, or at least some, of these qualities. personally, the blogs i like to read most do include aspects of DIY and craftiness, as well as fashion.

4. the most successful blogs are the ones that have their own personal voice - how are you developing your voice or how did you find yours?

both nora and i are not afraid of talking about our lives on the blog. we want our readers to feel as if they know us...and that includes us talking about our families, friends, and what we do on a day-to-day basis. we both pretty much write as if we are talking to the reader...we don't worry as much about punctuation (or capitalization =) and we just talk as if we are creating a dialogue between ourselves and the reader. we hope that if we ever met our readers, we would all be instant friends.

5. toot your own horn... what's one thing you do that is unique to you and your blog? what gives your blog an edge?

i think the fact that there are two of us is what gives us the edge. while nora and i have very similar tastes (so much so that people have asked us to start signing our names at the end of posts because they couldn't tell who wrote which post), we also have different ideas on what and how to post. i also love it that i can read our blog as if it's a new blog because it's not just me posting. the fact that we are sisters and such close friends also makes it fun - people really get a good look into our lives because we talk about each other and ourselves!

happy friday, all!
xoxo,
megan bird
